Wow, I finally found time to listen to this! It’s a nice way to experience the story and your production quality is getting ever better. This seems like a cool approach ... but I wonder if the audience for this is distinct from that on Substack? Meaning, I wonder if you’ll find people who are looking for dramatic readings here? I don’t know the answer!
It's funny you mention that, because I checked back at click rates yesterday, and while it's probably not 100 percent accurate, it indicates it's not a big draw. From what I understand, it's more popular when there is no readable equivalent (a true podcast), or it's a full length novel, where people listen at work or on car rides. It's a bit anecdotal, of course, but I sense from what I'm seeing on even popular paid substacks, it's a different market.
Thanks Justin! I'm always afraid with these because they're like folk stories, and while it's a style I like a lot, I know it's not quite as popular. I wonder if readers see a wall of text and are a little intimidated. Looking forward to Fifties on Friday!
A chilling tale, I think the mother knew from Birth that her son was not of this world and when her son reached a certain age she was eager to free herself and her son from the evil that was entangled in both of them.
Thanks, Mark! All of the illustrations are custom made by me using a program called Clip Studio Paint. Although, there is nothing really special about the program. I used to do a lot more art and comic work but stopped to focus on writing. Substack is an opportunity for me to use both the writing and art together now and helps to differentiate. I enjoy it, and I chose a style that's not too difficult to replicate weekly.
Wonderful story! The descriptions during the transformation gave me the shivers! I would like to remain human, please and thanks. 😁
Thanks, Claire! I'm the same way -- I would prefer to be human, especially since a dark ocean at night is too scary for me to call home 😁

What an awesome story, Brian. The suspense was perfect. I could feel the tension mounting with each paragraph. This is one of my favorites of yours!
Great job on both the illustration and narration, too!

Great story.
Thanks Cynthia!
You're welcome. I enjoyed it a lot.

You nailed it! She knew or was pretty sure she knew that this was the year a change was going to happen. Thanks for reading!
Great story, Brian! If you don't mind me asking, what do you use to come up with your graphics?
