It’s a little early here for egg nog, so I’ll just stick with the coffee. Congrats on the year and the growth but maybe most of all on the focus, which is to say on doing what you enjoy most and find most valuable: the fiction. I’ve really enjoyed reading your stuff (hell, you taught me that I can like speculative fiction after all) and can see the growth that has come out of your focus. I’m in transition on my book project: finished the first draft, have followed Matt Bell’s advice to thoroughly outline that draft, and am now reaping the benefits of seeing with my own two eyes that I need a pretty substantive revision. So, I’m revising! And reading, of course. Just finished a really interesting book by Russ Roberts called “How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life” that I would recommend highly and am now into Marilynn’s Robinson’s “Gilead.”

That's awesome, Tom! I hope you'll share some of your revision process if you think it will be helpful, including what you might have done differently from the start with serializing. As we get closer to next year I'm really being pulled toward something longer, but I still have this anxiety about serialization. Looking forward to seeing your book on the shelf in the future.

I think I’m get ever closer to the conclusion that serialization is for the birds. I wouldn’t mind discussing this with you ... I’ll send you GChat (or whatever the hell it’s called now)

What a year! Congrats on all the good things and good luck with your submissions for next year and your book! I hope you have a good break! As for me, I'm just working on new stories to post here and maybe working on some longer stuff, but longer stuff usually eludes me, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Thank you, Claire! I understand what you mean about the longer stuff. It has eluded me as well. I started to write a novella, and the story just didn't grab me enough to keep going. Maybe 2023 is our year for something longer!

Congrats on your growth and all your work this year! I look forward to your stories, and sci-fi isn’t normally a preferred genre for my reading pleasure, so thanks for sharing them. Fingers crossed for successful results in January with your latest submission!

Thank you for reading and for your support, Bryn! I've had a few folks mention that my sci-fi isn't really mainstream, which is why they like it. Here's hoping some others feel the same!

Congratulations Brian. You're doing a great job and keeping consistent. Good job on the growth. You give me hope as I'm plugging along. And I'll probably take a couple of weeks off in December, also. Sounds like a plan. We're hanging out here with family drinking atole.

Happy New Year coming up! All the best.

Thanks Victor! It can sometimes feel like a bit of a slog growing in readership, but once you start connecting with other writers and readers it real does feel much more comfortable. You've got a great, unique voice as well in your writing so I'm sure people will enjoy it. Hope you enjoy the break and have a Happy New Year!

Something that didn't make the publication deadline, but which I finished yesterday is the author website for The Stars Will Fall. It's mobile friendly, but definitely check it out on desktop as well. Let me know what you think.
