Very interesting read. I guess anyone can lose themselves completely in another realm of embodiment. I was driving on a highway a long time ago I must have been 25 years old. and a song came on the radio I was so absorbed with the lyrics that I found myself floating above my car. I looked down and saw myself sitting behind the wheel looking forward. It was a peculiar emotion. I was frightened and angry at the same time. I remember pulling over and getting out of my car only to feel my skin on fire from the sun.
Music has a strange effect on people sometimes. Good thing in your case it didn't cause aging or traveling to another universe! Although that would make a pretty cool story 😁
Wow, this is really cool--there’s some real emotional depth in parts that makes this really engaging. Will it be part of your collection? If so, my gut tells me it needs another revision pass--there are just a couple phrases here and there that ring a little weird in my ears (maybe in yours too, if you go over it again). Nothing big, just some tiny stuff. Love the pile of clothes on the couch!
Thanks, Tom! It is going in the collection, and I agree it needs another pass. When I started writing it got deeper and longer than I anticipated, and before I knew it Tuesday night rolled around. Something that has helped me with revisions is reading it out loud, even at a whisper. If my brain stutters on a sentence, then I know it needs revision. If you're able to point out a couple sentences and have a few minutes, feel free to shoot over what isn't working. I know I've already stuck you with the collection introduction, so no worries if you don't have time 😁
My last few weeks of December are going to be some crazy editing!
Thank you for reading, Andrei! I love it when readers dip into the archives and appreciate an older piece. This has always been a favorite because it's a bit bizarre and different, the kind of science fiction I wish I could write all the time. Thanks for your comment!
I very much enjoyed this story! At one point, I had a music store in Albuquerque where we sold instruments as well as audio equipment. We sold JBL, Kenwood, Phillips and so forth. One summer we received a pair of Rogers speakers from England, with hand tuned crossover coils. I thought they were the best speakers ever created. I took them home and played Boccherini, Holst, Steeleye Span, Alan Hovhaness, on and on! At the time, listening to that great music on vinyl was the peak of human experience. Of course, vinyl has now made a comeback for audiophiles.
Thank you, Robert! That's very cool about the music store. When I was in grade school, records were still sold along with cassettes, but they were at the end of their life. For a long time, we only had an AM/FM receiver, record player and my dad had a reel to reel. This story was inspired by him playing Bolero, although he never conducted 🤣

So cool! At first I thought this would be a literary tale, your first I’ve ever read, but the twist at the end was fantastic.
