Another exceptional short story. I didn't see this as superhero fiction initially. But after seeing someone else make the connection it reminds me a lot of the movie, Unbreakable. The 'superhero'/fantastical element is softer. The story is grounded in real emotions, real life circumstances, real conflict. I think that makes for a better story in the long run.

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback, Sam! I love the movie Unbreakable because it does speak to a more emotionally driven protagonist, having to decide how best to use his powers and figure out shaky relationships. My kind of story. 😁

That was an amazing story. So beautiful. The language was elegant, the character of Ayuma drawn out so nicely. His wants and needs to be a hero answered in a way he never expected. Very well done, Brian.

Thank you, Ben! I had never really considered writing a "superhero" story, so I let it play out the best I knew how. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Empathy as superpower. At once prosaic, and also rare enough to the defining train of a manga character. There is quite a maturity to your writing, here. Very powerful stuff.

Thank you, Jeff, I appreciate that! I do feel like my voice has changed since I started a few years ago, hopefully for the better. I dare not say more mature since that just makes me feel old. 😉

Great job. It illuminated my imagination as though I were watching a movie and experiencing the small sliver of hope.

Thank you, Elizabeth! I've been aiming for more cinematic appeal in my stories, so I'm happy to hear it.

I didn't know how to phrase it properly but "cinematic appeal" is exactly what I was trying to say!
