Great story, Brian, and inspiring to me, who is where you were in March, starting to shuffle along roads again. Can’t wait to hear how you and your wife make out in the race...although it begs the question: are you going to be a ninja turtle, ghoul, goblin, or other?
Thank you, Bryn! You can do it! Form small, manageable habits to start, and you'll find the journey to be more pleasant. The very first time, many years ago, I just started going for daily walks and then cut out dessert a few times a week. That was it to begin.
I have considered the dress up, even a small contribution to the event, but I fear the sight of me in a nurse's outfit would both scar and scare the children beyond what they expected. 😉
It's funny how as I get older it actually becomes easier to change and make new habits. The old saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks doesn't seem to apply to me. 😁
Thanks for reading and commenting, Holly! I'll keep everyone updated on the results of the 10k.
Great personal story - thanks for sharing. I too, lets say... let myself go a bit with the onset of covid and have now been spending a good deal of effort getting myself healthy again. One thing I can confirm is that the older we get, the harder it is to get the results so I've now convinced myself that it's better to just stay in shape. Hopefully it will stick - only time will tell but I'm in your corner rooting for you!
Congratulations on your 22-year wedding anniversary!! That's an awesome way to celebrate. You must've faced down some trials together over that time, and a 10K is just another one (in racing form, this time). Congrats on your successes so far, and good luck on the run!
Thank you, Olivia! It's crazy to believe it's been 22 years. It doesn't feel that way... although to my wife it might. 😂 There's definitely been ups and downs and lots of memories. Less than one month before our wedding 9/11 happened. We debated about flying still, but cancelled and drove to our honeymoon destination, a total of 18 hours in the car together. That's called a marriage building exercise right out of the gate.
Thanks, Tom! The kids are great, and that's mostly the result of my wife's love and encouragement. I do plan to write about the 10K. It should be fun, but I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself. At this point, I just want to finish without walking and within a reasonable time.

It’s always nice to be reminded that this is a fantastic time of life to make wonderful new habits. Thanks! And hope the 10k is great. :)

Thanks, Dan, I'm rooting for you, too! I've realized over time it's much easier to eat 3000 calories than it is to burn it off. 🤣

Nice story Brian, love the comments from the kids. I hope we’ll hear all about the 10k.
